Abstract

There is provided a micro lens array () in which a plurality of micro lenses () is disposed two-dimensionally on a substrate, wherein the focal distance f of the micro lens () and distance Ts from the main surface of the micro lens () to the substrate surface upon which light is incident meet the following/√{square root over (2)}/√{square root over (2)}where P is a pitch of the micro lenses () and (X, Y) is within an X-Y coordinate system surrounded by the following point sets The micro lens array can be used to improve the contrast of a liquid crystal display having an optical compensation element provided therein.
