Abstract

An apparatus that comprises at least one electrode adapted to be placed adjacent to a portion of smooth muscle () and a controller for electrifying the electrode with a non-excitatory electric field () which does not generate excitation of the smooth muscle. The non-excitatory electric field affects the activity of the smooth muscle in a manner that controls a level of a chemical in the blood stream.
