Abstract
Volume data () constituted of more than one slice image () shot with a CT scanner () is transferred to an image server (). A CPU () of the image server () makes a site recognizing section () recognize a site of each slice image () included in the volume data (). The recognized site is recorded in a tag area () of each slice image () as site information (). The CPU () refers to the site information () of each slice image () and judges whether more than one site is included in the volume data () or not. When judging that more than one site is included in the volume data (), an image compression section () selects a common compression mode and compresses each slice image () under a common compression format and a common compression ratio.
