Abstract
A portable access point including a power source having a state of charge, a wireless local area network transceiver configured to communicate with a wireless client device, and a wireless wide area network transceiver configured to i) access the Internet, and ii) provide the wireless client device access to the Internet, a control module configured to activate a sleep mode of the wireless wide area network transceiver in response to packets of data being not being received at the wireless wide area network transceiver for a predetermined period, wherein the predetermined period is based on the state of charge of the power source. The wireless wide area network transceiver is configured to, in response to activation of the sleep mode, halt wireless transmissions of packets of data to the Internet.
