Abstract

Lancing devices are disclosed having a carriage slidably disposed within the housing and a lancet carrier configured to directly receive and hold the lancet. The lancet carrier is engaged within the carriage and movable relative to and independently of the carriage between a forward incision position and a rearward cocked position. A trigger assembly has a user accessible first portion and a second portion attached to the carriage and movable with the carriage along the longitudinal axis. The second portion is configured to maintain the lancet carrier in the rearward cocked position and the first portion is configured to release the lancet carrier from the rearward cocked position.
