Abstract
A backlight unit () according to the present invention includes: a light source () for emitting light; a light guiding member () for receiving light emitted from the light source () at an end face (), and propagating the received light in a first direction (P); a prism sheet () disposed at the front face () of the light guiding member (); and a reflection section () disposed at the rear face () side of the light guiding member (), and the reflection section () has a reflection surface () for light being emitted from the rear face () of the light guiding member () and having a component in the first direction, the light being reflected toward the rear face () of the light guiding member () as light having a component in a second direction which is the opposite direction to the first direction.
