Abstract

The invention relates to an imaging system and a method for generating high-quality X-ray projections () of a patient (). The system comprises a rotational X-ray device (), for example a cone-beam CT-gantry (), and an associated data processing unit (). During a medical intervention, low-dose raw projections () of the patient () are continuously generated from different directions. A volume of interest () is then reconstructed from said projections (), from which high-quality virtual projections () can be calculated for a display on a monitor (). The number and direction of said virtual projections () can be arbitrarily chosen by the user.
