Abstract

The present invention relates to a method of producing a plant of thegenus that exhibits resistance to Pepper mild mottle virus (PMMoV) pathotype 1.2.3, comprising providing a recipient plant of thegenus that is susceptible to PMMoV pathotype 1.2.3 or a part thereof, and introducing into the genome of the recipient plant or a part thereof or a progeny plant thereof a genomic region comprising a truncated L4 resistance allele, wherein the allele comprises genetic information capable of being expressed in the plant or plant part or progeny plant thereby conferring resistance to PMMoV pathotype 1.2.3 to the plant or plant part or progeny plant, and wherein genetic information that confers the SNFD phenotype is absent from the allele at least to such an extent that the SNFD phenotype is not expressed.
