The present invention provides a polarizing film containing an azo compound represented by the following formula (1): in which X is a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, a nitro group, a cyano group, an alkyl group having 1 to 3 carbon atoms or an alkoxy group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and M is a counter ion.
