A method for joining members capable of firmly joining a first member made of a tubular member, such as, e.g., a pipe, to a second member is provided. The following items are prepared: a tubular first memberhaving a polygonal cross-section and a hollow portion, a second memberhaving an insertion holewith a cross-sectional shape corresponding to a cross-sectional shape of the first member, and a split diecircumferentially split into multiple segments at positions corresponding to flat wall portionsof the first member. Then, the first memberis inserted into the insertion holeof the second member, and the split dieis disposed in the hollow portionof the first member. Next, each segmentof the split dieis moved radially outward of the first membertoward each cornerof the first member. As a result, an insertion portionof the first memberinserted in the insertion holeand both sectionsandaxially adjacent to the insertion portionsare expanded to join the first memberand the second member
