Abstract
In switching a channel or in switching an external input, a reduction in a psychological strain on a user is offered. An image generating unitgenerates image data indicating a lapse of time on the basis of time information received from a control unitand supplies it to a combining unit. The combining unitcombines image data stored in a storage unitand the image data indicating the time information from the image generating unitto generate video data and supplies the video data to a video switching unit. The video switching unitselects video data from a video decoder, the video data from the combining unit, or video data from a determination uniton the basis of the control of the control unitand outputs it to the display unit. For example, when a user switches a channel by operating an operating unit, muting is performed, the video data from the combining unitis selected, and video indicating a lapse of time is displayed on the display unit
