Abstract

A coated carbon-carbon composite material with multiple ceramic layers to provide oxidation protection from ultra-high-temperatures, where if the carbon-carbon composite material is uninhibited with BC particles, then the first layer on the composite material is selected from ZrBand HfB, onto which is coated a layer of SiC coated and if the carbon-carbon composite material is inhibited with BC particles, then protection can be achieved with a layer of SiC and a layer of either ZrBand HfBin any order.
