Abstract
Provided is a material containing at least one phosphorescent metal complex, and a compound represented by the following formula (1): wherein at least one of Rto Ris a 9-carbazolyl group which is optionally substituted or an azacarbazolyl group having 2 to 5 nitrogen atoms which is optionally substituted. The material for the organic electroluminescence device may be used as a host material or a hole transporting material. Also provided is an organic electroluminescence device which has an organic thin film layer that contains the material, and exhibits a high emitting efficiency, causes little pixel defects, is excellent in heat resistance, and has a long lifetime.
