Abstract
An electrode groupformed by stacking or winding a positive electrode plateand a negative electrode platewith a separatorinterposed therebetween, is housed in a battery case. An opening of the battery caseis sealed with a sealing plate. A leadextending from one of the positive and negative electrode plates in the electrode groupis laser-welded to the sealing plateby application of a laser beamhaving a spot diameter smaller than a thickness of the lead
