Abstract
A respiratory mask () that comprises a mask body () and a harness () that includes a carriage () and a strap (). The mask body () lacks a rigid insert, is non-elastomeric, and is adapted for fitting over a person's nose and mouth. The mask body () has a nose portion (), a chin portion (), first and second cheek portions (and), and an axis () that extends from the nose portion () to the chin portion (). The mask body () is constructed to deform such that the first and second cheek portions (and) move towards each other about the axis (). The carriage () is joined to the mask body (), and the strap () is joined to the carriage () for supporting the mask body () over a person's nose and mouth. When tension is applied to the strap () and an opposing force acts at the nose and chin portions of the mask body, the first and second cheek portions () exhibit movement about the axis () towards each other. The respirator mask is beneficial in that it is lightweight, easy to manufacture, and maintains a good fit to a person's face.
