Abstract
A driving wheel bearing apparatus has an inner ringsecured to a wheel hubby a caulked portion. An outer joint memberof a constant velocity universal jointhas a shoulder portionand a cylindrical shaft portion. Face splinesandare formed at the end faces of the shoulder portionand the caulked portion. Face splinesandare supported with pressure by a fastening boltthat abuts the outer side end face of the wheel huband is threadedly connected to an internal threadof the shaft portion. Compressive remaining stress is placed on the surfaces of the face splinesandas a result of surface modification, by shot peening. The surface hardness is set at 300 Hv or more.
