Abstract

A check seal () for discharging working oil scraped off a piston rod () by an oil lip () into an oil pool (A) of a hydraulic shock absorber to an oil reservoir (R) is disposed on the outside of the oil pool (A). The check seal () comprises an annular seat surface () and an annular lip () seated resiliently on the seat surface (). The annular seat surface () comprises an annular main rib () and an annular inner rib (), both of which project toward the annular lip (), such that an annular groove () is formed between the main rib () and the inner rib (). By providing a pressure introducing passage () to introduce a pressure inside the inner rib () to the annular groove (), the check seal () exhibits a high working oil discharging performance and a high working oil sealing performance.
