Abstract

A method for making a gas turbine component (). A central core () is positioned to occupy a space that will define a central channel (), and an outer channel core () is positioned spaced apart from the central core (). A mold () is formed around the central core () and the outer channel core (), so that an exterior wall () contacts the mold (). A substrate material, such as a metal alloy () in liquid form, is added to the mold () to form an internal volume () of the component (). The central core () and the outer channel core () are removed, and interconnect channels () are formed between the thus-formed central channel () and the inner portion () of the outer channel () thus far formed. A preform () is placed into the inner portion () and may have a desired outer surface () shape. An overlay material is applied to form an outer layer (), thus defining the remainder of the outer channel (), which is obtained upon removal of the preform ().
