Abstract

An liquid crystalline organic semiconductor material practical as an organic semiconductor is provided. The material is a liquid crystal composition having a smectic liquid crystal phase. The liquid crystalline organic semiconductor material has a distyrylbenzene structure of formula (1). When heated to a temperature range for the smectic liquid crystal phase followed by being cooled, the material takes on a solid state as a result of phase transition from the smectic phase. Wherein Rand R, which may be the same or different, each represent an alkyl group, an alkoxy group or a group of general formula (2): Wherein Rrepresents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group; and B represents —(CH)—, —(CH)—O—, —CO—O—(CH), —CO—O—(CH)—O—, —CH—CH—O— or —CO—.
