Abstract

The invention is about a catalyst comprising at least one support, at least one group VIII element, at least one group VIB element and phosphorus, in which the density of group VIB elements per unit surface area of the support is in the range (limits included) 2×10to 18×10of oxides of group VIB elements per mof support, in which the molar ratio of phosphorus to the group VIB element is in the range 0.27 to 2.00, and in which the amount of group VIB elements is in the range (limits included) 1% to 20% by weight of oxides of group VIB elements and in which the support has a specific surface area of less than 135 m/g. The invention is also about a process for hydrodesulphurizing gasoline cuts containing sulphur and olefins in the presence of this catalyst.
