Abstract

An organic luminescent device having organic-compound layers is provided which takes on luminous hues with very good purity and has optical power with high efficiency, high luminance and a long life. At least one of the organic-compound layers contains a benzo[k]fluoranthene compound represented by the following general formula (1): wherein Ris a group selected from the group consisting of alkyl, aralkyl and a heterocyclic group which may be substituted, and R's may be the same or different; Rto Rare each independently a group selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, halogen, alkyl, aralkyl, phenyl, a condensed bicyclic aromatic group and a heterocyclic group which may be substituted; and a is an integer of 0 or more to 9 or less.
