Abstract
An ECB-mode liquid crystal display device having a pair of substratesand, a liquid crystal layer, a pair of polarizing plates () () and at least one optically anisotropic layerand/or, wherein they are disposed such that the absorption axesandof the polarizing filmsandin the polarizing plates are parallel or vertical to the left-rightward direction of the screen of the display device. The orientation axesandof the substratesandand the orientation axesandof the optically anisotropic layersandpreferably cross the absorption axesandof the polarizing filmsandof the adjacent polarizing plates at an angle of 45°.
