A surface mount variable resistor meets the needs of user for front and rear terminals of an insulating substrate. The surface mount variable resistor includes an insulating substratewith a variable resistor patternand electrode patternsformed thereon, resistor termination terminal fittingsconnected to the electrode patterns, an electrically conductive sliderincluding a sliding contactthat slides on the variable resistor pattern, and an intermediate terminalthat includes a rear intermediate terminal fitting portionand is electrically connected to the electrically conductive slider.
