To provide a syringe in which a covering member whose engagement has been released automatically moves to a projection movement terminal where it can be prevented from returning, and returning of a projection positioned at the projection movement terminal can be limited. A covering memberis formed so as to be guided by a guide portionto a stopper portionfrom its housed posture within a holding portion main bodyso that a projectionengages with an engagement portionwhile being urged by a springto a covering posture so that the engagement is released and the covering member covers a needle exposed portion, a return preventive portionis joined from a stopper portiontoward the base end, and furthermore, a returning movement limiting portionis formed at a holding portion main bodyso as to be positioned closer to the base end side than the stopper portionand closer to the tip end side than the returning movement terminalof the return preventive portionwhile being spaced to the base end side from the projectionpositioned at the stopper portionso as to face the projection while leaving a space S, and comes into contact with the projectionlifted from the stopper portionwithin the range of the space S.
