Abstract
A mobile station () for use in a cellular communication system () includes a processor () operable to determine whether the mobile station should undergo cell re-selection by handover from a first base station () to a second base station (), wherein the determination includes comparing a value of a property (RSSI) of a signal received from the second base station with a value of the same property of a signal received from the first base station and calculating whether the difference between the two values is greater than a pre-determined reference difference (SRH), characterised in that the processor is operable to apply in the difference calculation a reference difference (SRH(), SRH() . . . ) which varies as a function of time during an idle mode of operation of the mobile station. Also disclosed is a system and method incorporating the mobile station.
