Abstract

A package () with three layers allows sterilization of the package contents, provides a separate area for a scavenger and minimizes the oxygen transmission rate for the package and has, in one embodiment, a third layer () with a first section () of breathable polymeric material, a second section () of substantially non-breathable polymeric material and a third section () of breathable polymeric material which is positioned between a first layer () of substantially non-breathable polymeric material and a second layer () of substantially non-breathable polymeric material. The first layer () and the second layer () are fixed together to define a non-breathable pouch (); and the third layer () is fixed to the first layer () and the second layer () and divides the non-breathable pouch () into a first compartment () and a second compartment (). The outer seal () fixing the first layer () to the second layer () does not include any interposing first section () of the third layer ().
