A composite rim () for a bicycle wheel (). The rim has at least one braking surface () and a wear indicator () that indicates when a predetermined level of wear has been reached at the braking surface (). The wear indicator () is arranged in the rim () so that its does not affect the outer surface of the rim () or weaken its mechanical strength.
