Abstract

A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) base station having a wireless transceiver, and a controller to manage the wireless transceiver. The controller can direct a communication device requesting wireless access to another WiMAX base station upon determining that granting wireless access to the communication device reduces an operating performance of the WiMAX base station below its operating threshold. Additional embodiments are disclosed.
