Abstract
The invention relates to an internal combustion engine (), in particular in a motor vehicle, having a fresh air system () for supplying fresh air, which is extracted from the environment () of the internal combustion engine (), to combustion chambers () of the internal combustion engine (), and having a degassing system () for discharging blowby gas from a crankcase () of the internal combustion engine () and for supplying the blowby gas to the fresh air of the fresh air system (). Furthermore, the degassing system () has an oil separator () for removing oil from the blowby gas. In order to improve the performance of the oil separator (), a vacuum opening valve () is connected to the crankcase (). Said vacuum opening valve () opens as a function of a vacuum prevailing in the crankcase (), and then permits an inflow of fresh air into the crankcase ().
