Abstract

A composition for use in an electrochemical redox reaction may comprise a first material represented by MXOor AMXO, where each of A, M, and X independently represents at least one element, O represents oxygen, and each of x and y represent a number, and second material selected from SiC, BN, carbon tube material, carbon fiber material, and an oxide of at least one element. When the first material is represented by MXO, it may be capable of being intercalated with ionic A to form AMXO. At least a portion of the second material may be at least partially distributed within the first material and/or may at least partially coat the first material. An electrode comprising such a composition is also described, as is an electrochemical cell comprising such an electrode. A process of preparing a composition for use in an electrochemical redox reaction is also described.
