Abstract

An electrode layer () formed by a transparent conductive varnish is applied to a mineral or plastic glass carrier. Afterwards, a luminescent layer () formed by a transparent matrix () provided with electroluminophors () incorporated therein is disposed within contours defining an image surface. Said luminescent layer () is dividable into several discrete partial areas. A rear silver-containing electrode layer () extends within the a luminescent layer () contours above a surface whose size is approximately equal to the size of the luminescent layer () but leaves a narrow edge area () thereof free. The structure also comprises an insulating transparent layer () provided with recesses () in the area of the rear electrode layer () in order to bring it into contact for voltage supply from a rear face. Said rear electrode layer () is brought into contact through the recesses () of the insulating layer () by means of a transparent conductive varnish contact layer (). The inventive electroluminescent display is insulated on the rear face thereof by a rear transparent insulating layer ().
