Abstract
According to one embodiment, various characteristic parameters for determining whether an input audio signal is a voice signal or a music signal are calculated and the calculated characteristic parameters are compared with a threshold value for voice determination and a threshold value for music determination. A voice characteristic score is provided to a characteristic parameter indicating voice and a music characteristic score is provided to a characteristic parameter indicating music. Then, based on a difference between a sum total of voice characteristic scores and a sum total of music characteristic scores, it is determined whether the input audio signal is a voice signal or a music signal.
