Abstract
An electrochemical machining apparatus and method for machining a workpiece (). The apparatus provides a pulse of electric power, which is conducted from the workpiece (), to an electrolyte () flowing through a gap (), and then to an electrode (). Material is eroded from the workpiece () when the pulse of electric power is applied, thus machining the workpiece (). The apparatus includes a power supply () to supply the electric power and a switching portion () for producing the pulse by switching the electric power ON and OFF. The switching portion () is capable of producing a pulse of electric power with a pulse duration of about 2 microseconds and a current of at least about 2800 amperes.
