Abstract
A cylinder headfor a multiple-cylinder internal combustion engine is provided with a centralized exhaust passageway E. The centralized exhaust passageway E includes individual exhaust passagewaystoconnected to combustion chambers defined by recessesto, and a central passagewaycollecting the exhaust gas flowing through the individual exhaust passagewaysto. Each of the exhaust passagewaystohas two branch passagewaysextending from the exhaust ports Ea opened and closed by exhaust valves, and a merging passagewayhaving one end connected to the two branch passageways. The respective passage diameters Dto Dof the merging passagewaystoare substantially equal to the passage diameters dto dof the branch passageways. The merging passagewaystoand the central collecting passagewayare surrounded with water jackets Wand Wfrom above and below. Thus exhaust gas cooling efficiency can be improved without enlarging the cylinder head provided with the centralized exhaust passage.
