The present invention provides a malononitrile compound represented by the formula (I): wherein any one of X, X, Xand Xis CR, wherein Ris a group represented by the formula: the other three of X, X, Xand Xeach represent nitrogen or CR, provided that 1 to 3 of X, X, Xand Xrepresent nitrogen, and Z represents oxygen, sulfur or NR, which has pest-controlling activity.
