A method and system for reducing an amount of ammonia in a flue gas stream. The systemincludes: a wash vesselfor receiving an ammonia-containing flue gas stream, the wash vesselincluding a first absorption stageand a second absorption stage, each of the first absorption stageand the second absorption stagehaving a mass transfer device; and a liquidintroduced to the wash vessel, the liquidfor absorbing ammonia from the ammonia-containing flue gas streamthereby forming an ammonia-rich liquidand a reduced ammonia containing flue gas streamexiting the wash vessel
