Abstract
An image display apparatusthat displays an image using a light modulated according to an image signal includes a projection optical systemthat includes a projection lens, a first mirrorthat reflects a light from the projection lens, and a second mirrorthat widens an angle of a light from the first mirrorby reflecting the light, and projects the light modulated according to the image signal from an optical engine unit; a third mirrorthat reflects a light from the projection optical system; and a screenthat transmits a light from the third mirror. The projection lensand the second mirrorare arranged in such a manner that an optical axis of the projection lenssubstantially matches an optical axis of the second mirror, and shift the light from the optical engine unitto a specific side from the optical axis of the projection lens. It is possible to cause a light to travel accurately, to display an image, in a thin structure with a small non-display section adjacent to a screen.
