Abstract
A method is proposed for automatically installing an auxiliary unit () on a computer () that is not yet prepared for the auxiliary unit (). Upon connecting a new auxiliary unit () to the computer a registration routine () is carried out, within which operating routines () required for operating the auxiliary unit () are installed, after whose installation the auxiliary unit () is switchable from a basic mode to an auxiliary-unit specific operation mode. If the operating routines () are not yet present in the computer (), they are first transmitted to it by the auxiliary unit (). According to the invention it is determined whether a required operating routine () has to be transmitted by installing a background process () on the computer () which, upon the connection of an auxiliary unit (), checks whether identification information () re-transmitted to the computer () upon request is already stored on the computer ().
