A polyvinyl(tetrazole) is formed by a water-based method. A gas generating compositioncontaining the polyvinyl(tetrazole) is contained within an exemplary gas generator. An article or gas generating systemincorporates the polyvinyl(tetrazole) therein. A vehicle occupant protection systemincorporates the gas generating system. An article or substratecontaining a coatingformed from the product of the water-based method is also described.
