Abstract
The use of a complex oxide having the following composition (I). MoVXXXXO(I) wherein Mo is molybdenum; V is vanadium; O is oxygen; Xis at least one element selected from tungsten, titanium, tantalum and niobium; Xis at least one element selected from copper, antimony, tellurium and bismuth; Xis at least one element selected from alkaline earth metals; Xis at least one element selected from alkaline metals; and O<a≦10; O≦b≦4; O<c≦5; O≦d≦2; O≦e≦2; and x is a numerical value determined by the extents of the oxidation of the other elements, as a catalyst in the preparation of a partial oxidation product of a lower alcohol by direct oxidation of a lower alcohol in the vapor phase.
