Abstract
A method is provided for manufacturing a plugged honeycomb structureincluding a honeycomb substrateand plugging portionsarranged so as to form complementary checkered patterns at both end surfacesandof the honeycomb substrate. The method includes attaching a first mask filmto the first end surfaceof the honeycomb substrate, making slurry permeation holesto introduce a plugging slurry, attaching a second mask filmto the second end surfaceof the honeycomb substrate, making slurry permeation holes, allowing air to flow into the cellsso as to discharge air giving a pressure of 0.05 to 5 MPa between the first mask filmand the honeycomb substrate; and filling cell opening end portionswith the plugging slurryto fire the resultant slurry filled substrate
