Abstract

A battery () is disclosed having a lithium foil anode () embedded within a liquid electrolyte () which is positioned between two similarly constructed battery cathode halves () and (). Each cathode half has a first glass barrier () coupled to a first porous metal substrate (), a second glass barrier () coupled to a second porous metal substrate (), a third glass barrier () coupled to a third porous metal substrate (), and a lithium air cathode (). A peripheral layer of edge sealant () surrounds the peripheral edge of the electrolyte and bonds the two halves together. The battery also includes an anode terminal () coupled to the anode and a cathode terminal () coupled to the cathode.
