Abstract

An apparatus () is provided for powering an in-battery electronic application module () without the use of an external on/off switch. A battery pack () is electrically coupled to a radio () via three interface contacts: power (), ground () and single-wire serial data port (). Circuitry is included within the battery pack () to sense and monitor data activity on the single-wire serial data port () generated as the radio () is turned on. Based on the level and timing () of the data activity present on the single-wire serial port (), the electronic application module () can automatically be turned on (), remain on () and turned off ().
