Abstract
A fuel delivery devicehas a delivery pipe, which supplies fuel to a fuel injection valveof an internal combustion engine. An electromagnetic relief valvereleases the fuel from the delivery pipein response to an opening instruction and lowers the pressure of the fuel in the delivery pipe. A diagnosis device for the relief valvehas an electronic control unitoutputting the opening instruction to the relief valvein response to a stopping instruction for stopping the engine. The unitdetermines whether the relief valvehas a defect based on a manner in which the pressure of the fuel in the delivery pipechanges after output of the stopping instruction. As a result, it is appropriately diagnosed whether the electromagnetic relief valvehas a defect.
