Process for the preparation of substituted pyridine derivatives of formula (I) comprising reaction of a α-β-unsaturated carbonyl compound of formula (II) R—C(O)—C(R)═C(R)-G with a Wittig reagent or Horner-Wadsworth-Emmons reagent in the presence of a base and optionally subsequent cyclization.
