Abstract
A drive device for electric vehicles comprises a casing, a motorhoused in the casing and having a rotating shaft, a housingrotatably fitted around the casing and coupled to the outer end of the rotating shaft of the motor by a reduction gear mechanism, a drive wheelprovided around the housing and an electromagnetic brakefor arresting the rotation of the rotating shaft of the motor at the base end of the shaft. The rotating shaft of the motor is engaged with or disengaged from the electromagnetic brake by a clutch mechanismprovided between the shaft and the brake.
