Abstract

A self-service change redemption machine () has a coin hopper area () for receiving batches of mixed coinage and a powered mechanism () for transporting them to an intake opening () into the machine () for sorting, counting and directing coins into a plurality of coin receptacles. The transport mechanism has a pivotable cover () for preventing access to a portion of the feed path leading into the machine () and, if the cover () is lifted, the powered mechanism () will be stopped. The mechanism () is designed to prevent jamming of the coins in the hopper area () or along the feed path ().
