Abstract
An adder that can detect the generation of overflow at a high speed. Carry signal cfrom the 15digit to the 16digit in the result of addition from the 1digit to the 16digit of the input data is generated on the basis of bit signals (a-a, b-b) for the portion from the 1digit to the 15digit of the input data, and of carry signal CIN input to the 1digit, and it is output from CLA. Then, carry signal cfrom the 16digit to the 17digit is generated based on said generated carry signal cand bit signals (a, b) of the 16digit of the input data, and this is output from CIA. Exclusive-NOR circuitthen operates on said carry signals cand c, and overflow detection signal OVFis generated.
