Abstract

A silylated polycarbonate comprises silylated carbonate units, where the silylated carbonate units can be derived from a silylated dihydroxy aromatic compound of the formula (1): wherein Gand Gare each independently Calkyl, —OSi(Calkyl), Carylalkyl, or —OSi(Carylalkyl); Zand Zare each independently a straight or branched Calkylene, a Carylalkylene, or a Calkylarylene, Xis a direct bond, a heteroatom-containing group, or a Corganic group, and r and s are each independently 1 or 2. A method of forming the silylated dihydroxy aromatic compound, and for forming the silylated polycarbonate, are disclosed. Also disclosed is a thermoplastic composition comprising the silylated polycarbonate, and an article comprising the thermoplastic composition.
