Abstract
A manufacturing method of a plugged honeycomb structurewhich comprises a honeycomb substrateand plugging portionsarranged so as to form complementary checkered patterns alternately at both end surfacesandof the honeycomb substrate. The method comprises attaching mask filmsandto both end surfacesandof the honeycomb substrate, respectively; forming slurry permeation holesat portions of the mask filmsandcorresponding to cell opening end portions, respectively; forming deaeration holesat portions of the mask filmsandfacing the portions provided with the slurry permeation holesvia cells; submerging both end surfacesandof the honeycomb substrateto which the mask filmsandhave been attached into a plugging slurry, respectively; and firing the resultant slurry filled substrate
